MySpaceID WordPress Plug-in Setup
Content >
MySpaceIDHere are step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring a WordPress plug-in that uses MySpaceID features. This plug-in lets WordPress bloggers and commenters log in to a blog by using their MySpace name and password.
WordPress is a popular and free blogging platform. The wp-myspaceid plug-in for WordPress is an extension to WordPress that adds MySpaceID functionality to blogs on which it is installed.
Adding MySpaceID to a blog allows bloggers and commenters to log in using their MySpace credentials rather than having to set up and remember yet another username and password.
Requirements
To set up the MySpaceID WordPress Plug-in, the following is required:
- A Web server or WordPress hosting provider running Windows or Linux.
- WordPress installed on that server.
- A MySpace Profile (account).
- Registration of your site as a MySpaceID application*.
- Prerequisite plug-ins, as explained in the instructions below.
*Note: To allow people to access to your site by entering their MySpace login and password, you must register your site as a MySpaceID application. This sets up your site to use a secure “OpenID” access protocol. With this protocol in place, the login information is not shared or made accessible to any other party. To register your site as a MySpaceID application, follow the instructions on How to Set Up a New Application for OpenID. See the related instructions in steps 5 and 6 below.
Setup
Follow these steps to extend WordPress with MySpaceID.
Note: The look of WordPress dashboard interface may vary from server to server, depending on themes installed.
- Install the following plug-ins using their instructions:
- Download wp-myspaceid.zip (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-myspaceid/)
- Unzip the wp-myspaceid.zip file to the /wp-content/plugins directory on the hosting server.
- On the WordPress Blog, select the Plugins tab and click the Activate links for MySpaceID, OpenID and XDRS-Simple.
The following image shows the plug-ins after they have been installed but before being activated:

- If you have not already done so, register your site as a MySpaceID application by following the instructions on How to Set Up a New Application for OpenID.
IMPORTANT: When you register your site as a MySpaceID application, you'll enter your domain as a Relying Party Realm. When you do this, be sure to use a trailing slash at the end of the URL (i.e., use http ://www.myblog.com/ NOT http://www.myblog.com).
- As you register your site as a MySpaceID application, be sure to copy the OAuth Consumer Key and OAuth Consumer Key Secret from the MySpaceID application's App Settings page on developer.myspace.com. Save these pieces of Key data; you'll need them for a later step in this process.

- On the WordPress Blog, select the Settings tab and click MySpaceID.
